Yes, I can hear you, Clem Fandango!

I am an old fart and still find pretty solid deals on craigslist.

They can still eat shit since they STILL fund anti-lgbtq organizations, to my knowledge.

It isn’t portable enough and usually you need a reason to be at the hospital, not just hanging out.

Hospitals tend to have uninterrupted power supplies.
…what does this have to do with anything?

But even if the technical side of security is top notch, infiltration would be trivial…
Yeah really bad opsec all around in a LOT of these groups, but I’m not really sure how you organize without a means of communications. I think collective ownership of the means of communication is just as important to laborers as collective ownership of the means of production.

Honestly, I’m really less worried about myself and more worried about people in more dangerous situations where the cost of such a thing dwarfs even the cost to me. There’s tons of people out there who are being actively monitored by their governments and they simply can’t afford it. Like all the dirt poor immigrants being deported to countries they have never been to.

I think his name was Cornelius.

Literally anything. Clothing. A bed. A UPS so I can safely update my six year out of date BIOS that is causing issues snd the constant, random power outages here don’t make me feel safe enough to just do it whenever. A car. Insurance for a car. (Or being able to afford to live in a city with good public transit) Gender affirming care. A place to live. Privacy. Safety.
Oh yeah and my cancer meds that I am forced to live in poverty for and the threat of losing then dangles over my head if I lose my medicaid. Which is possible now.

I get their reasoning but it fucks over a lot of people without the finances to always buy a brand new google devices and who absolutely need that kind of security.
Really grinds my gears because in the end it means only the moderately wealthy really get the benefit.
I have a pixel 6a I got refurbished and I dont have options but to make it last as long as I can and I’ve already had to change the battery manually once myself.

Sounds like a massive class action suit waiting to happen.

Think methheads stealing wire are bad now? Just you wait and see.

Community is literally the most important thing. I am glad you have people looking out for you!

Why don’t you go do science yourself instead of deciding you figured it out because of a handful of web searches.

Matrix is actually aimed at enterprise services which is where they make most of their income to keep running. Parts of the French and German governments use it for communication, for example.
I think part of the issue is that people want it to replace Discord when it’s really meant to replace Microsoft Teams.

Illegal depending on your jurisdiction. In the US it’s still a civil matter unless you’re facilitating.

Which means they don’t understand how files work and spend a lot off wasted effort on DRM. They give us a file whether they intend to or not.

Getting notified about new releases from your favorite artists and then just being able to listen to them right away is a joy.
There’s a whole stack of self hosting services that allow you to do exactly this. The *arr stack.
Mine automatically grabs the new releases, downloads them to my plex server and I can stream anywhere with Plexamp anytime I want.
To be fair I bought a lifetime Plex Pass back when they were $45.

I am still using disc drives from the 90s with zero issues. I actually take care of my shit unlike most people so maybe thats why.
I mean maybe in standalone devices but you certainly aren’t using a drive on your PC from the 90s without a whole lot of work for a slow shitty jury rig job.
Managing switching a PATA connection to SATA is a pain imho.

the community building aspect is really fun. You dont get any of that with files.
Back in the day I was huge into music communities on Soulseek. Files can build just as much community, just saying.
Matrix is aimed at enterprise sized organizations and it shows.
