A new beta release for the Steam client includes scoped-achievements.

Achievements can now be split into game mode specific, DLC specific and seasonal specific achievements.

In theory, this will now allow players to achieve achievement completion, even though they’re not interested in the multiplayer aspect of a game.

Its a checklist the developers made for you. How is that anywhere near completing the game itself? I get this is my unpopular opinion but you dont need achievements to complete a game, or to track a game, or to prove you beat it. You can just play the game. Exceptions to this are things like SoT’s commendations that actually give you unlocks. I exclusively only do the ones that lead to some in game reward item or something. Achievement score go up feels like a microcosm of billionaire brain rot.

In a game with a quest log, you also have a literal checklist. What’s the difference between the two?

If I can achieve success within the game, why do I need an external graphic to indicate that I did so.

Depends on the game. Skyrim, for example, doesn’t always give a reward, especially for the main quest objectives, it only advances the plot. And Team Fortress 2 is one game I know that gives item rewards for achievements.
