    So if seagate isn’t an option, and WD isn’t an option because of the SMR bait and switch, what hard drives are recommended?

      Drives failures vary by model number more than by manufacturer. Buy seller refurbished drives from serverpartdeals if you don’t want the companies to get your money.

      Maybe a shuckled Western Digital you find new and at a good price? I’ve had a 12TB I shuckled, but is just one. And after 2 years is still going strong.
