A pepper spray equipped drone in a school??? Tight enclosed spaces with halls and doorways (that are usually closed) you’ve got to navigate. Quad copters are loud, and that’d be amplified by that enclosed space. Without sufficient distance to keep out of reach they’d be an easy target to take down by the assailant. To use the spray, you’d have to get near, deploy it, and escape before being struck down; giving the spray to the assailant to harvest and use.

AND they’ve only got 8min of flight time.

All he had to do was make his own instance, where he can defederate from/block whoever he likes. Let users decide if they want to be a part of it.

Good intentions don’t justify bad actions, and abusing the trust instilled in you as a developer of a popular tool is rarely taken lightly.

Imposing your own personal opinionated blacklists on other peoples platforms without their knowledge and consent was never going to go well, no matter what your intentions are. ESPECIALLY in the fediverse; a system built to prevent exactly that behaviour.

I like how this dev used regex to match any similar names, not just the specific name they’re trying to block. People out there catching strays, getting blocked when they’ve done nothing but have a similar name to someome this dev doesn’t like.

Plenty of people use the physical power button - including me. It’s directly equivalent to the software shutdown button, but you don’t have to go to a specific menu for it. Just press and walk away.

You can also change settings so it puts the computer to sleep or hibernate, instead of a full shutdown.

Your experience =/= Everyones experience.

For a bonus, the sensor reacts when people walk too close in front of it.

All the sinks, toilets, and urinals in my work bathroom use touchless sensors. I often have to wear high-vis; when I walk through the bathroom (even directly along the far wall) every sensor goes off as I walk past. Water for everyone! Even the ghosts.

There’s still a switch on the psu if you really want it off NOW. Or you could unplug it.

The power button does a graceful shutdown by default because most people don’t like data loss/file system corruption…
