  • This did not end up in the ER but is a bit of a funny tale. When I was very young I got bit by a gerbil on my finger but it must of hit something somewhat significant as the blood was spurting. I wrapped a kitchen towel around it and wen to my brother who upon seeing the kitchen towel wrapped around my finger and hand for what I explained was a gerbil bite immediately started making fun of me. Oh did you get mauled by the mighty gerbil or such. Anyway he then unwound the towel and was like. holy shit. and wrapped it back up. He got it tightly wrapped with a real bandage and gauze and such that it slowed the bleeding down so that after a few hours and a rewrap it was no bleeding passed the bandage anymore.

  • There are many types of cognition. I don’t feel I know much more than how pieces move but certainly I look at the board and possibilities. Some of it is spacial modeling and some is a sort of logical progression. That being said people that have particular chess gambits memorized. well that is just memorization. There is also talent and such to consider. That being said when you personally know somone who is good at some particular thing. Its sensible to follow their lead. I know folks who I would take their medical advice above others and others where I trust their economic viewpoints and others for their scientific.

  • Indirectly. Some came with my wife and when my father in law passed we got another. Now my wife has a brown thumb. I think I made that term up but basically she has a knack for keeping animals healthy and alive and im not exactly sure how. She just has good instincts around that stuff. Anyway she has a tortoise and a turtle. Pretty easy over all as its mostly cleanup and feeding. She does this rubdown of fishoil and other supplements every few months. From my father in law we got a goffin cockatoo when my father in law passed and the bird is almost 40. We have had him for like ten years but my father in law had him way longer and in his formative years. Anyway im father in law as a curmudgeon and so is the bird and he shows no signs of changing his way at this age. I do not recommend exotics though. If you don’t live in a major metropolitan area finding a vet that handles them will be tough and even then the vets will be far more likely to be ignorant of them. I would not have them if not for my wife and even she would not get more as she realizes she was just not as wise in her youth.

  • You know I would love to have many things before this but I don’t think we can get anything else meaniingfully done till we squash the current corporate situation. so number one is is not just to get rid of citizens united but enshrine in no uncertain terms in the constitution that rights are guaranteed for living people of the country and all other entities get rights as given by non constitutional law which can never supercede or even be considered on par with the tights of living people. That should followed with massive regulation and getting back to a decently progressive taxation system. That might allow us to then deal with our most pressing issues decently but without it our systems essentially rigged.
