I get the illusion with the blue radiograph halfway down, but I’ve never been able to easily switch the dancer.

The one that always gets me is the light/dark image that has the same grey in two places, and on one side it looks like darkness and on the other like light.
Basically, these: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=grey+illusion+light+dark&ia=images&iax=images

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you are formerly religious, how did you leave your religion and what made you do it?
3·1 month agoIt was a fucking struggle to leave, let me tell you.
I suddenly suffered from a crippling disease (made worse because I was 10 and generally healthy before that, so it was mind boggling at the time), and no one in the church gave a hoot. You’d think a community of people who believed in a loving god would care that such a god would randomly punish a kid… so when everyone just told me to accept it I understandably grew pissed. That then blossomed into asking questions about others with diseases, famine, war, death, bla bla bla, and every answer was just stupid.
Buuut, I was in a super religious family, and went to a religious school, and was a part of a very community focused church, so it took until I left at the age of majority to really leave religion behind. I argued with every single dumb christian I could find for my teenage years, because I wanted to find someone who actually had a good argument. Humorously enough, the best argument ever made to me was by someone who didn’t even care about christianity except that he ‘was’ one by dint of other people being christians: maybe it was necessary for god to send people to hell and have a shitty life… except obviously that’s a shitty god that I wouldn’t care to worship, so finally in college I said good-fucking-bye to the entire mindset.
As for what happened, while I was still under the parents’ control and the school’s control, I was labeled as a troublemaker and generally ostracized. My mother would wail (reasonably) about the situation, but stopped making me go to church as I entered high school. The extended family that still cared about religion just chalked it up to attention seeking and ignored it, which was fine by both parties.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you are formerly religious, how did you leave your religion and what made you do it?
1·1 month agoTurns out that’s pretty much all of them.
The evangelical / nondenominational churches are honestly the ones I like best in that regard, with owning land/businesses. They are almost never some weird real estate owning corporation behind the scenes, just a collection of locals who pooled money and built a church. I don’t agree with their religion or beliefs, but that’s different.

2·1 month agoHopefully something terribly comedic, like: could god make his vagina so small that he couldn’t make a penis small enough to enter it?
Augustine, thought war could be justified in certain circumstances, one of which was if the following peace created more good than the evil if the war wasn’t fought.
And don’t forget Aquinas, who literally sandwiched his one chapter on war between the chapters detailing mercy. If I remember the professors correctly, that was no mistake, and was very, very thematically intentional. Christians are downright fucked in the head as they try to cognitive dissonance their way into reconciling our species’ lust for war with high minded ideals of love and kindness.
I hated running then, and I hate it now. Everyone should take up better forms of cardio, like skiing, biking, rowing, or typing long replies on lemmy.
They were running the other direction. Also, no. I was just grumpy for a week or so.

Games@lemmy.world•What is a game you can’t understand why its so popular ?English
1·2 months agoDemon’s Souls, 2009. Tales of series had at least three entries before that with lore on items found in game that I know of. I would bet the others out of the 8 released between the first one I played and 2009 also had something similar. And that’s just one series. You mentioned baldur’s gate 2, which did it, and don’t forget to add its spiritual ancestor of icewind dale along with the original.
I’m sure if you went and looked through a great many games, since there are more than any person can realistically experience/play, there were hordes of them that had world lore from items. None of them that I remember were ‘nebulous.’
Ooof. I still remember when I was wearing as little as socially acceptable to go for a run because it was blazing hot… and some other folks running past me commented loudly enough for me to hear it that I (paraphrasing because it’s been a while) wasn’t in shape enough to show that much skin.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are we OK with doctors and nurses working double or triple shifts?
1·2 months ago…Yes, they suck, but don’t you dare take my long shifts away from me. The delicious nature of the suckage of a long shift is that you then have a long break.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are we OK with doctors and nurses working double or triple shifts?
6·2 months agoHA! Maybe firefighters, but EMS gets to sit around the firehouse once in a bloody blue moon. The 24 hour shifts suck, because the chances of you actually getting to sleep during the night hours are incredibly low.
Sure, there are going to be differences based on where you are working, but generally EMS is nearly call-to-call.

31·2 months agoWe as a species, is losing to whatever the “internet” is. We need real regulation.
And none of that regulation will have anything to do with age, if you want real effectiveness. A teenager seeing a dick and a dick, a vagina and a vagina, or a dick and a vagina, being mashed together isn’t concerning in the big picture. The stuff that is worrying about the internet affects adults just as much as children, like social media.

Games@lemmy.world•What is a game you can’t understand why its so popular ?English
5·2 months agoI mean… a little bit of that is a good game design. I’d rather have some things that are just ‘characters living their own lives in universe’ rather than everything revolving around the character’s effect on the world. Fromsoft just goes overboard with some of it.

101·2 months agoIt’s the nebulous lore part that really gets me. Other games have done the items=lore part before, but weren’t so fart-sniffing about it.

Not that video, but I remember another one from a little more than a decade ago where the guy was talking the entire time, explaining the process (and joking at one point about how only the new guys constantly used both safety hooks because it doubled or tripled the time of the work). Then you realize that there was another fella climbing with him when they get up on the little platform.
