I dunno, I feel like anyone drawn to Lemmy for that reason will find lemmy.ml nearly as easily. If world suffers because of bad practices, well, that’s the way it goes. At least the fediverse lives on.

I mean, “bad” in this case is completely subjective. There are large trans communities on other instances (blahaj being the most obvious one) and they have their reasons for defederating from Hexbear.

Meh, that’s kind of the point, no? Seems like it would be more jarring to only federate at the community level, as you either a) still have to interact with people from the unwanted instance or b) deal with randomly hidden comments from that instance. If the community dies because it’s on an unpopular instance, well, that’s the way it goes. Can always start up/join a community on another instance that’s federated with yours.

Lol as if these generations are doing anything different than they were doing before. Kids have always lied about their age to do adult things. Not saying it’s healthy, just like it wasn’t healthy for kids to get their older brother to buy cigs, but it’s not a unique problem and these generations are far from a “lost cause”.

As unenforcable as they’ve always been, and honestly I prefer it that way. Really don’t want to give my ID to random websites.

I was a reddit Sync user and was super bummed when (large scale) API access was shut off, so I jumped on the chance to use Sync for Lemmy. It defaulted to world for signups, presumably for ease of use for migrating reddit users. Knowing that Sync already had a loyal audience that was willing to put in a little effort to migrate, it seems the dev opted to make everything as similar to the reddit UX as possible, including registration.

Now that I’m more familiar with the fediverse, I’ve been considering migrating to a more specialized instance that matches my interests. Truthfully, though, it seems unlikely that much of anything would change if I did since I’m going to keep using the same app, so I’ve been slow to move.

To compare this with my experience with Mastodon, I was absolutely overwhelmed by the idea of instances and really had no idea which to join, nor did I have a familiar app to work with. I figured it out eventually, but a lot of the artists I follow didn’t or didn’t have time to, so overall I haven’t spent much time on it. I’ve spent way too much time on Lemmy so far.

I mean, it’s not cope, I just like 7 and 8. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan, I’m not out to change anyone’s mind, I just liked the movies as a fun adventure with some good themes. I didn’t like 9 because my favorite part of 7 and 8 was the idea that you don’t have to be from some powerful family to be a hero (something that was better executed in Knives Out), but 9 really threw all that away.

It could be credibly called an homage if it had a new punchline, but methinks the creator didn’t know what “sanitize” meant in this context.

This may be a silly question, but what are VMs generally used for in a corporate setting? Is it the same use case as docker?

I kinda get it, mod authors (and FOSS devs) often get a lot of requests for something they’re doing in their free time without pay. If they already have a backlog, they have to be picky about what tasks they take on, and they can get a bit snippy when overwhelmed with requests (or questions that might turn into one). That being said, there’s no reason to be rude.

You should probably amend your original comment to clarify that the fake part of the video was done by one of the people who volunteered to put the package on their porch, which Mark at least claims he had no knowledge of. Also worth pointing out that the known fake part of the video has been removed.

Listen, in industry programming (and for personal projects if you want to get them done), the thief is the way to go. By all means, challenge yourself to understand each of these functions, but 99% of day to day development will not look like this.

I use InkStitch for designing embroidery patterns on Inkscape and love it, especially because commercial embroidery design programs are so expensive. I won’t lie, it’s pretty clunky at the moment, but I hope to be able to contribute to it and really polish it up.

Shorts are such a stupidly blatant way to start showing more ads than content, and they make navigating channels impossible. Hell you can’t even get away from ads in search results with premium.
