God damn I love it :) I’ve been messing with Linux for 20 years now and there are some patterns that never seem to change.
In almost every thread about Linux there will usually be:
1 person bragging about 'Using Arch" btw (before that it was LFS or Slackware)
1 or 2 people saying this will be “The Year of the Linux Desktop”
2 or 3 people joking about it being “The Year of the Linux Desktop”
10 - 15 people explaining why it wont be or shouldn’t ever be “The Year of the Linux Desktop”
3 or 4 people complaining about how rude the Linux community is.
10-20 people saying that isn’t their experience and/or they always try to help people when they can.
1 or 2 people actually being rude (who are usually downvoted).
2 or 3 people saying how Windows/Mac OS is better in certain ways.
4 or 5 people complaining about one specific thing that doesn’t quite work for them in Linux, or one specific Windows/Mac only program they must use for work.
8- 10 people giving them suggestions about how to solve their issue or work around it.
Personally I love the Linux community. The people are mostly great, friendly, able to think outside the box, and willing to help others. I try to emulate that whenever possible. Sure you are going to get rude people in every scene, I just ignore them.
What’s up with your username homie?
I “only” have a 1TB SDD. If I wanted to download a new game I would have to delete one that’s already on here.
I grew up poor and we couldn’t afford a set of encyclopedias. We lived in the country so libraries were not a walk away. I never even thought to ask my friends if they had encyclopedias when visiting their houses and having this happen.
Encyclopedias were also somewhat limited. It could be useful if you were wondering what the main export of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was, but if you were wondering what strategy to use to beat the final boss in Ninja Gaiden you were likely out of luck (I know, I know, these are terrible examples It’s 3:30am, cut me some slack).
TV had plenty of educational stuff
Sure, but it’s not like you could be sitting there with your friend and be like “I wonder what the most common name in the world is?” and turn on the TV to the answer to your question.
Plus you weren’t always at somebodies house, you could be on a hike or at the lake and think of a question.
There were a lot of times back in the day where I would think of an interesting question and then by the time I got to a place where I could research it, I had forgotten all about it. I guess I could have and probably should have carried around a little notebook and wrote those questions down. Hindsight is 20/20
And how’s the newfangled Google knowledge world panning out so far? Lots of people getting informed?
Pretty great honestly. I can’t speak for other people but now when I have one of those “I wonder about X topic” moments I actually just look up the answer.
It even took me a while to catch up to the fact that it was now an option. I remember several times when I first got a smart phone and I would have the “I just thought of something I would like to know more about” experience and then forget that I had the ability to find out an embarrassing amount of times before it finally got to the point where it’s second nature to look it up now.
Well, yeah. They aren’t exactly trying to hide their white supremacist tendencies anymore.
That makes me more interested in watching it honestly.
Refugees are a type of immigrant though.
I like realism. I also like fantasy. It’s interesting to see different peoples takes on these characters imo. I think it would be boring if every time they make a new Superman franchise it was exactly like the last one.
Capitalism isn’t about anything other than keeping the ruling class rich and in power. How it chooses to do that has varied throughout time. During the 20th Century the lie was that “American Style” capitalism was fair because the capitalists would promote Laissez-faire style economics (“Free Trade”) out of their mouths, while actually building monopolies.
With the rise of Trump-style ‘conservatives’ Republicans have adopted a new strategy, Mercantilism. Mercantilism doesn’t even pretend to be fair or free. The word ‘Competition’ doesn’t even appear anywhere in that article because competition is bad for Capitalists and they see no reason to continue to lie about that. They actively oppose free trade.
Even if ‘Capitalists’ possessed the ability to feel shame for being hypocrites (which they certainly do not), calling them out for not following along with the principles of ‘the free market’ does no good since they have abandoned advocating for that a while ago.
Your comment for me reads as every legal immigrant is getting deported by ICE, not some but all
It’s a significant number of them so far and I see no signs of it slowing down. Perhaps the goal is to deport every legal immigrant? At any rate it’s enough of them to expose the lie that MAGAts have been spouting for the last decade that they “have no problem with immigrants, they have a problem with illegal immigrants.” Clearly that isn’t the case.
Besides even deporting just one LEGAL immigrant is one too many. Especially when they aren’t just being deported, but being thrown in foreign prisons/ possible death camps.
and as the US isn’t the only country that has immigrantants, it reads as false
I’m still not sure what you are getting at, what does other countries having immigrants have to do with how we treat immigrants in the U.S.? Other countries also have authoritarian dictatorships, that doesn’t mean we should have one here.
I do realize that. What does that have to do with my comment?
I don’t think they adopted him as in a legal process, I think they just pretended that he was their biological son. You can’t just go to the court and be like “We found a baby, can we keep it?”. They could have surrendered the infant to law enforcement and then petitioned to adopt it, but afaik this never happened the Comics, Movies or TV Shows (including the one Dean Cain was on). So while it’s true that he was a US citizen, it was because the Kent’s lied about his origin.
From what i read in some comic series he was actually birthed on earth and was able to run for president.
If you are referring to Kalel/ Calvin Ellis from Earth 23, he wasn’t born on Earth either. He was born on Krypton like the other Supermen.
The point that GaMEChld and James Gunn are making is that even if Kal-El was made a legal citizen he is still very much an immigrant (and technically an illegal Alien) and none of that matters one single bit. Being born on U.S. Soil to American parents doesn’t make you a good citizen and being born somewhere else doesn’t make you a bad one.
An Illegal alien at that. He can’t even claim Birthright Citizenship, if we still followed the Constitution I mean.
I would say make sure people have a clear way of becoming legal immigrants.
Right now there are legal paths to immigration, and that’s who ICE is deporting- people trying to do things ‘the right way’.
We should make sure the labor laws are enforced for everybody regardless of their immigration status, that would go a long way towards addressing the issue you are talking about. It’s not the fault of people desperate enough to accept being exploited, it’s the fault of companies doing the exploiting, they are what needs to be fixed.
It’s the Republicans who consistently vote against paying people a reasonable minimum wage and against protections for working people who are clearly to blame, but sure blame immigrants. Talk about not dealing with reality.
Cool, I’ll check it out. I’m not a dev so I mainly use GitHub to download and install other peoples work. It’s nice to know that there is a decent alternative for people who need it.
That used to be the case, it is enabled by default now.
Those instructions are about how to reinstall SteamOS on your deck. A little further down the page it talks about how to install on other handheld PC’s like the Legion Go and ROG Ally.
Currently, expanded support includes devices with AMD hardware and an NVME drive, targeted toward handheld devices. Please note, support for all devices that is not officially ‘Powered by SteamOS’ is not final (currently anything that is not a Steam Deck or Legion Go S)
While you technically can download it and people have been able to install it on their PC’s, Valve doesn’t recommend doing so.
They probably will (hopefully) have a version targeted toward PC’s in the future, but it’s not there yet.
If you want a SteamOS style experience on desktop you would be better off using Bazzite since that is what it’s designed for.
You are correct that it is possible to do, but it’s not recommended.
They’re all drunk
