It’s a thing that sticks out, and you don’t know what it is, but it has the function of sticking out. Like a naturally occurring bulgy peak or other unknown long shape coming out of something else.

It’s most often used as slang for penis, but otherwise it might be found on trees or wooden objects.

I paid my share by sharing.

Pro was not, but the earlier versions were technically crippleware. It was distributed freely with magazines and what not. There was no actual cripple though.

Back on in 2003 Adobe bought the freeware software called CoolEdit 2.0 and republished it as a paid product as Adobe Audition without changing a god damn thing.

CoolEdit was too good to be true. It’s only fair that the developers got paid, but I just wish they didn’t have to sell out to Adobe of all companies.

I hope this 2026 version of Audacity will finally be on level with what we had for free in year 2000.

Audacity is like a tape recording studio. It doesn’t support midi programming and VSTi as far as I know.

Everything is a DAW if you’re brave enough, and there’s no strict definition, but for something to be a full DAW, it should have both recording and virtual instruments IMO.

As of now, there’s very few free ones that does both and Reaper beats all of them as the cheapest paid option. However Reaper doesn’t do everything. Some paid DAWs still have features that Reaper doesn’t.

Not really. I’m not rich, and don’t have any particular savings, but I have plenty of everything.

More importantly, it’s not at risk.

If I should lose my job, I have an income insurance that is pretty damn good, so I could go unemployed for about 2 years before having to lower my expenses. If it should go that far that I run out of insurance, I would still get like 80% of my salary as social security. This would be manageable, so there’s no risk at all that I ever become homeless.

So sure, things are expensive and I don’t have any chances of suddenly becoming rich or buying everything out of the blue, but I’m not concerned about the next paycheck.

It runs on tracks, so it might be slimmer on the ground level than the conventional construction vehicles. Sure a wheelbarrow is smaller, but I don’t think that’s a realistic option, lol.

One of the things that this project is testing is how the foundations are made. They do not have to clear the trees to dig and level out the area to fill in loads of gravel just to make a concrete pour. They are somehow able to make the foundations around existing structures like trees and on somewhat uneven ground.

Technocracy is not the solution. A society needs other values. We can’t take for granted that the smartest people share the interest of others.

It’s amazing how one sentence can change a first world problem to a third world problem.

Restaurant menus make sense. It’s easier for them to maintain any changes and it’s easier for you to get the order right. If it lets you pay, that’s also easier and faster than being held up by a waiter who has no interest in getting you to leave the table.

I’ve never had to sign up for anything when using such a menu.

If we give them optimal conditions and the sole purpose of multiplying, it’d still take at least 400 years. 8 billion is a big number, but once it gets going, they multiply fast

It’s an interesting idea, because it shows that the crazy ideas that Hitler had about breeding would not work. All the people outside the experiment would easily outbreed them, simply because there’s more to begin with.

The same for populating Mars by breeding. Not going to happen. Earth could easily outnumber the Martians by sending a single ship in that timeframe. Whatever purpose colonizing Mars has, it’d be a waste of time trying to breed humans there.

Same thing for the fearmongering about Muslims outbreeding the European populations. Not happening. Whatever cultural differences we have today will be far gone by the time that the genetics of either group outbreed the other. It’s like complaining about half the current population being descendants of Ghengis Khan. It makes no difference.

It would be interesting to play with a simulation and then throw a larger planet at Earth than the one that is assumed to have created the moon. Just to see what it’d look like from Earth.
