The examples of a parking lot, highway at night, and closed bus terminals are examples of things that should be busy that are not. So that doesn’t exactly clarify what a liminal space was versus what it is now. At least, it doesn’t for me.

That’s deep. And dark. And, dare I say, dank.

Story time: once upon a time, back when I was much, much cooler than I am now, I used to ride a motorcycle. I had this bad habit of riding with the visor up and no sunglasses. That is, until one day, a bug got stuck in my eyelid. I had to ride for 30 minutes like that before I got home and was able to wash out my eyeball.
Moral of the story: eye protection! Always eye protection!
You win today’s internet.
Welcome! As a new mod of a community that recently went through similar growing pains (and rules updates), I can appreciate the challenges ahead of you and @ayyy@sh.itjust.works. You sound like you’ve got a good head on your shoulders, and that will do a lot for you and this community. There is nothing more humbling than being given a responsibility like this (at least, that’s how I feel: YMMV).
It is my understanding that mods from different instances than the community do not (always?) see the mod reports for the community (or get notified?). It might be worth looking into more just to be sure.
Also, I’d love to learn more about your local AI setup. I’ve been interested in doing something like that myself, but I am not sure where to start. 😊

Creative’s Sound Blaster Katana V2X
That’s the company and model speaker.

I’ve only made this once, and it wasn’t that great. But, I’m going to try again and I have a few tweaks that’ll hopefully make it better.
Also, something I recently learned is to spend the extra money at the fancier grocery stores for the produce and meats. You really do get what you pay for!!

Happy cake day you crazy bird!
We should send a delegation out into the stars for a few hundred years so they can come back and tell us.
~I have a few names I’d like to nominate.~

There wasn’t max profit in those labels.

Okay, this is a much better version of the quote that makes more sense and feels less bleak (to me). Thank you for that.

That is the most corporate (de-)motivational sounding quote if I ever heard one.
Attack the argument, not the person.
Let me remind you of a few things:
I understand you feel strongly about this, and whether you believe me or not, I respect your point of view. Show me a better argument than the one you are currently presenting and change my mind*. Also, you will need to change the community’s mind too.
~* This is not one of those typical bad-faith “change my mind” meme references you might have seen flying around.~
Your argument, as it stands right now, is not compelling enough to warrant a change in a rule that the community has voted on having.
We already had that conversation. It’s rule #4.
📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due - Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting. - Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
(emphasis mine)
I am not aware of any anti-advertising mechanisms available on Lemmy? That would be neat, if it were possible. 😅
I don’t always like, or agree with, every comic that gets posted to this community, but as long as said comic follows our established rules, I see no reason to remove the comic. We as a community have established that modifying a comic (cropping or otherwise remove any attribution, especially in the name of “advertising”) is not in the best interest of the community.
As an aside, I don’t know what Lemmy client you use, nor if it has a feature for filtering out keywords. If it does, you can filter out “SMBC” as cannedtuna has kindly tagged the comic series in the post title. If it doesn’t, it might be worth requesting that feature and/or finding a client that would allow you to do just that; filtering out unwanted posts is a really nice feature.
If there would be any rule change, I wouldn’t be opposed to requiring adding artist/comic series tagging in post titles. And I am certainly open to having that discussion with the entire community.
Doctor’s offices are the DMV of today.
You really should read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. 😂
