happydoors@lemmy.worldto You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK about Changing your Profile Picture to Clippy181·5 days agoThis reminds me of old “solidarity” profile picture filters that came out after the Arab Spring and later for France. Solidarity was cool but 2 clicks and a picture that doesn’t amount in any significant action or real participation and is VERY ignorable by people above the line. News media will easily spin it into whatever narrative they want as well

happydoors@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would wine from back in ancient times and civilizations have been dogshit compared to a basic marketable wine produced by modern viniculture?10·23 days agoI know there was a more common everyday wine with pretty low alcohol content and not much to any sweetness. Alcohol was a good way to ensure clean drinking water and naturally keeps out a lot of bad bacteria. That’s why drinking wine is way more common in the Bible AFAIK

It seems to be a huge lottery. I’ve only had one or two fail but that was like 2008. Supposedly there is some sort of data rot or failure rate but I’ve never experienced it. Seems highly random

happydoors@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your best tip or hack for camping?6·1 month agoI just want to add that I got a cheap string of LED red lights that just power off a USB power bank. Red light lets you see in the dark while not ruining your night vision! I create a huge circle around me because somehow that makes me feel safe when I’m sitting at a fire.

happydoors@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I the only one who thinks social media has destroyed the spirit of the internet?5·2 months agoThe early years of Facebook as a teenager were great for me! No advertisements, just friends and friends of friends posting updates about their thoughts, activities, and photos. Somewhere in my college years (2011-15) it definitely got worse but not to a degree I’d call ‘bad’. Not disagreeing or anything, just sharing!

happydoors@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Am I the only one who thinks social media has destroyed the spirit of the internet?9·2 months agoI just gotta say, I felt that switch too around that time. 2016-2019ish. Something about how Instagram moved away from encouraging posts of your life to family//friends for pushing an influencer/celebrity sphere. People stopped sharing their lives, ordinary content wasn’t ranked as high. And then the other social platforms copied it
Imagine the shear amount of waste that guy helped put on the planet! A few spots away from a real life villain!
