Technology@lemmy.world•Why Are Cars Getting Rid Of Android Auto?English
40·4 days agoDepends on how heavily things are locked down, and how much money this tech-savvy person is willing to risk on a bricked automobile.
Some things can be blamed on the economy — not this. This is a matter of making first things first and not blaming others for our own short comings.
This is connected to economy and politics. Neoliberalism, to be exact. Rugged individualism, individual responsibility, every man for himself… The same myths used for concentrating wealth into teeny tiny minority and making masses poorer, are also making us lonely and isolated.
We are pack animals, we have survived for hundreds of thousands of years (millions if you count non-sapient ancestors) by building communes and taking care of eachother.

Technology@lemmy.world•What the Linux desktop really needs to challenge WindowsEnglish
4·6 days agoI’m aware of Dell officially supporting Ubuntu on their business machines, I appreciate that. What I meant is the market impact. Dell sells those development oriented workstations for those who actively seek them.
Go to any consumer store, online or meatspace, anything that is not a Macbook or Chromebook comes with windows.
(Of course it’s a chicken and egg problem, stores don’t want to stock things that won’t be in high demand)

Technology@lemmy.world•What the Linux desktop really needs to challenge WindowsEnglish
1331·6 days agoHe’s right. If vendors offered Linux based machines people would try. Valve is helping Linux adoption more than all the big names like Dell, Lenovo, HP… combined.
I resigned about when we started the switch to AUTOSAR. I’m happily in medical tech now.
I worked in automotive electronics. Our cables use asymmetrical trapezoid connectors made from heavy duty plastic with metal reinforcement. There are mechanical hinges to put things in place and lock them only if everything is aligned.
We still had to do electrical tests against wrong connections because apparently people somehow still force them wrong way around.

14·12 days agoThank you. I just don’t want to pay monies for an OS I’m going to ditch immediately. But if I wait RAM prices will make up for that anyway.

13·12 days agoFuck I just ordered a Go 2 with the intention of installing Linux.
People being constantly online absolutely doesn’t help but the issue is deeper than that.
It’s those phones I tell ya!
