Exactly … it’s also a double standard because reddit is basically a capitalist model of the same digital system but no one ever complains or criticizes it.

The socialist digital creators built something and shared it freely with everyone and also don’t exert control over anyone.

The capitalist digital creatures built something and locked it up, monetized it and are using the user’s efforts as the basis for the business only the owners make money on and have complete control over everything.

It’s amazing because it’s a fantastic metaphor for the two platforms.

I got to see this once when I went to see family up on James Bay. I went out with them for a ride on a winter road and at one point we just parked in the dark with a view of the horizon. It was so cold the temperatured dipped to past minus 40! We were in a half ton truck and we parked, stopped, turned off the lights and stood outside for a while. I couldn’t believe the amount of stars we saw overhead. Stars twinkled down everywhere down to the horizon in all directions. The Milky Way was an obvious band across the sky (not as dramatic as time lapse image but still obvious to view).

At one point I realized I was so mesmerized by the image that I became almost afraid and self conscious of it all. I literally realized I was standing on the edge of the planet and it made me realize that space was not that far away and if gravity failed for whatever reason, I would just float out into it all. The coldness, the light and stars and the stillness just made it all feel like I was actually in space.

I’ll never forget that place. It was amazing.

Ummmm … no … your military has been dishing out misery all over the world for the past 80 years.

My favorite example of this is the idea of money and finance.

There are trillions and trillions of dollars worth of imaginary wealth everywhere. None of it can be backed by actual product or material … it all exists because we all collectively believe that it exists.

It’s our modern day religion and we all believe in it and worship it daily … All Hail Money!

Cults are built on the power of belief and the more people who believe in a movement the more powerful it becomes.

If ten thousand cult worshipers claimed their leader walked on water, how would you go about convincing them otherwise, even if you had proof.

Look at Islam or Christianity or Judaism, they influence the world but they’re all only built on the power of belief.

And you can equate religions and cults because the only difference between the two is time.

Loved Halloween and drive ins when I was a kid.

I was up in Timmins one year with my family and we spent Halloween collecting candy and then everyone packed into a van to go to the local drive in. We stayed up watching cheesy horror films with Vincent Price and all the oldies back to back until about three in the morning. I don’t remember much because I fell asleep after falling off a sugar high about half an hour into the first movie and then slept the rest of the time. Nothing like waking in a daze to big giant images of Vincent Price on a big giant screen in the middle of the northern wilderness.

My ladder is a broken mess that I’ve had to maintain and nurture for many years … they’re still in my garage and I’ll never let them go.

That’s what I mean … just that hand gesture depending on who made it and in what circumstance just conveys a ton of information without saying a word.

It could mean … “hey that was fantastic spaghetti and the sauce was wonderful”

Or it could mean … “that was a ballsy move you did last night … imma gonna keep my eye on you and burn down your house next week”

Inaccurate for Italian because 50% of the language is conveyed by auditory volume, hand gestures and body language … and espresso, lots and lots of espresso.

Turkish is also inaccurate because 25% of the language is in the eyes … those intense eyes where you can’t tell if someone is excited, energetic, full of life or psychotic / murderous.
