While I’m not saying that your advice is wrong, I just wanted to point out that sometimes a “difference in political views” can mean a difference in values. Also, I wouldn’t be able to be friends with a Putin sympathizer. I’m not saying that the OP should break off his friendship. I just wanted to point out that sometimes it’s about more than just politics. Sometimes more is at stake.
I chuckled at the “I just ate, so there’s no hunger example” because I have a conservative-leaning friend who was of the “it just rained, so there’s no drought” mentality.

Is the “just because we disagree on politics we can still get along” frame of mind generally a conservative thing? Because on one hand, it makes sense. On the other hand, I find it very difficult, for example, to look past the fact that some conservatives want to stop aid to Ukraine (as a Ukrainian living in the US).
Oh yea, when Teslas first started appearing, I loved their whole philosophy and really wanted one.
