Believe it or not, that’s what dutch clogs (sabots, the teardrop-shaped wooden shoes) were for. They were around as early as the 1500s.

God. I love a woman in overalls.
To be fair, ‘artificial’ literally just means ‘made through skill,’ in opposition to natural, meaning ‘occurs as-is.’ I agree with you that there is a better word out there than ‘artificial’ for these spicy autocorrects.
That makes sense. If I understood everyone clearly, it’s not the idea to use a fresnel that’s new here, it’s the fact that we just haven’t yet had anything capable of withstanding those temperatures and still allowing for the piezoelectric effect to happen.
I am not a scientist so please correct me if I am off base, but did it really take them this long to attempt to focus light onto PV cells using a fresnel lens?
My hobby as a 15 year old was buying broken projectors to harvest the fresnel lenses in the lamp on top. They could focus sunlight so powerfully that you could burn shit. I didn’t do that, surprisingly. I was like Marge Simpson, I just thought they were neat.
Woah. I hadn’t looked at this project in a year or so. It has made huge strides.
Ah, well, then I stand corrected. I was just looking for an excuse to drop an old timey comic anywho.
Comics from 1900 - 1938 were fucking amazing. I guess because fewer people could read back then, they needed gags in strips to really only exist on a visual level. I’m sure people read gags out then showed the picture to a group of workers or travelers.
Here’s a sheet of one-panel from 1910. I think these were by Rube Goldberg, before he did his machine illustrations.
I respect that, but at the same time, if you don’t make time for leisure, 30 years will disappear down the drain in a blink of an eye. Nobody is going to make that space for you; you have to advocate for yourself.
Sure. Whatever you need to tell yourself to get through the day is fine with me.
Look at the ratio between our two comments.
Homie you’re gonna face that everywhere, not just Lemmy. GenAI is built on the intellectual property theft of thousands of artists. Nobody is going to applaud you for taking an unethical shortcut.
If Dinosaur Comics can write utterly classic comics using the same exact clipart every time, you can do it too.
AI can generate an absolutely perfect pangolin, but keyboards? Mathematically impossible!
I think this meme might be 25 years old.
It really is that simple. I wish I had received this kind of support.
Countries thinking they can control the influence of the internet is just so fucking frustrating. Hopefully the US doesn’t get the same idea.
Honestly, I know a lot of companies that would be absolutely fucked if Backblaze went under in a dramatic fashion.
