Between the Bars by Elliott Smith is a beautiful but sad song about alcohol addiction. These lyrics about how it robs you of potential while at the same time making you feel like anything is possible really hit home for me.

The House on the Rock in Wisconsin was a lot funner than I thought it would be. I happened to visit when there was hardly anyone there, so that helped greatly. There’s a huge room with a full size whale statue in the middle. And a suspended triangular room with a window on the floor overlooking treetops. Plus all sorts of other random stuff.
i loved terraria too. especially the base building part of it. you could get super creative with your bases if you wanted. i had a beach base with a lighthouse, ferris wheel & submarine. a jungle base on stilts. a cemetery base with a big skull, a cozy Christmas snow castle base, a cave base with glowing orbs, lava, and a robot, etc
satisfactory took all that to 11 for me. instead of bases it’s factories and it’s a beautiful hand-crafted 3d world, instead if 2d pixel graphics. i had a lot of fun building so many cool things there. my last play through was 840 hours which seems insane to me.
holy cow, what a nightmare! long lines where everyone is stressed and angry and powerless…ugh. so depressing and miserable!
I have an e-book reader, so I looked it up: “Mom had her own version of the day I was born, which I never believed, considering she was passed out for the event. I haven’t read This is Where I Leave, so don’t know how similar it is, but I really liked Demon Copperhead & it fits your criteria - trials and hardship but with some humor.
That was mine too. I hated it. I was playing to feel like a badass in Night City, not to scamper around and hide like a rat until the invincible robot catches me and drills into my face again. I was so happy to finally get out of there. Not because i beat it, but because it was finally OVER.
i took a motorcycle class where they also taught us that second one too: focus on where you want to go, not on what you want to avoid.

I played it vanilla on the 2nd play through too. I only added a couple mods at the end to help me hide the UI and fly around to make the video.
I didn’t mind re-collecting drives, sloops, and spheres again. On my first play through I was sort of rushed and disorganized about it & stayed mostly just in the south and west zones zones. This time I was everywhere, so it was nice to see more of the world.
I didn’t get all the alts but I got a lot more on my 2nd play through and came to appreciate what a big difference some of them make. Cast Iron Screws was big.
Did you get more into drones and trains the second time? That was a big difference for me. From 6 trains on the first play through to 29 on the second. Trying to make all the rail lines look OK was sort of tedious… But the second world looks a lot more “alive” with all those trains barrelling through it.
I was wondering what Vin Diesel and Billy Strings real names were. Mark Sinclair & William Apostol. Then i read about stage names
both are exaggerations to make it sound more impressive than it really was. but “literally” is for the people who aren’t happy with the normal exaggeration so they’re doubling down.

A friend of mine really despises Progressive’s “Flo” and that Geico Gekko. I’m no fan myself, but he REALLY hates them and says he’ll never give those companies any business because of those characters.

An Indian friend once explained to me about cricket that, if you follow the game, a few minutes of a batter NOT swinging at a pitch can be masterful play. The batter didn’t do anything and apparently if you’re into the game you’re thinking “oh that’s great stuff, really amazing strategy right there!”
I still don’t watch cricket, or any sports really. But I thought that was interesting.
This fish was hand carved out of a moose antler. I saw it in a store in Anchorage when I was there for a friend’s wedding. It was the first original art I ever bought and was pretty expensive at the time.

Using natural stone arches as part of a design sounds awesome, but that’s way too creative for me. That bridge was just slanted walls and ramps and lots of counting :)
I worked on the “slime line,” gutting fish in Seldovia Alaska when I was young. One long summer was more than enough for me. Also spent time while i was there “de-byssing” mussels on a raft with my buddies for some side cash. Same as debearding, but the guy called it “de-byssing.”
