Back-up/failover instances for communities and users.

Every user and every admin of a community should be able to assign a failover instance in case the main instance goes down temporarily or permanently. All relevant data (posts, upvotes, settings, password hashes, mod log) would be permanently syched so you could just switch over in case of a downtime and most importantly, no content would be lost.

If you implement a feature to set the failover instance as your new main instance, that would also implicitly allow you to migrate users and communities elsewhere.

That works with Boost for Lemmy, so apparantly the data is already there in the backend (and at least one frontend).

I guess if we as humanity focused on producing only high quality and essential, basic products (food, housing, clothing) + the tools and processes that we need in the supply chain, we could massively reduce labor and reduce our ecological footprint at the same time. But our current economical system is depending on everyone doing something, everlasting growth and consumption.

Maybe more working hours for office workers. Everyone can do another 8 hours of lucid night shift.

When using FreeCAD for 3D printing, you don’t necessarily have to add measures/constraints to everything, so I’d assume it’s similar here.

How the hell can one have patent of ‘catching a creature through aiming’ or even more crazy to me ‘riding a creature’ in games? Both concepts exist in so many games and even in real life. I mean did Nintendo never hear of horses?

Personally, I don’t like noticeable make-up. If it’s barely visible, it’s fine as well but in general I like ‘no make up’ the best.

It’s also not only about looks:

• If you wear make-up, you have to be careful with rain, touching the face, kissing etc.
• It may take a lot of time to apply.
• It’s expensive.
• It’s rather bad than good for your skin.
• It’s bad for the environment (more trash, animal testing, contimination of water etc.).

What is CSAM? It is an abbreviation for many things apparantly. Are you referring to ‘Child sexual abuse material’? Did you encounter such things on Lemmy?

So far I luckily didn’t come across anything like that but I also blocked all porn-related instances that I saw so far.

And do people also buy these non-alcaholic versions then or are they barely available in stores? If they really offer the alternative and at least some people switch to them, I’d still consider it a win.

Does anyone know how they define junk food in that guideline? Is it based on calories / fat / sugar? Or do they have a specific list of products that are now forbidden in ads? Or a list of companies? Does the ban include product placements (like a kids movie where a family goes to McD? What about ‘normal’ content about fast food (like SpongeBob making krabby burgers)?

I really appreciate the law but I think it can be quite challenging to draw the line between legal and illegal.

I vividly remember pushing my parents to go McDonald’s after I saw an advertisement with the newest Happy Meal toys. I wanted the toy in the first place, the food tasted good as a kid but even then not amazing. I think ads do have a huge influence on which toys and which food kids ask for.

I’d be completely on board with that proposal. There are many differentiators in sports that contribute to your success. Your sex might be a very important one but definitely not the only one that matters.

I would group different athletes based on skill level, strength, height or whatever is relevant in that dicipline. Being born with a penis or not shouldn’t matter.

If we say that for a specific kind of sport the level of testosterone is the most important factor to success, than that should be used for the grouping. That way, men with low testorone would be the same ‘league’ as woman with a medium testosterone level and woman with a really high testosterone level would play along men with a medium level of testosterone.

From my perspective, this would not only end all these gender discussions in sports but also make the lower leagues way more interesting and more fair for both genders.

I am far away from being a pro and own several Bosch Blue tools that were all rather cheap. You can buy them in every hardware store. Fein, Hilti etc. are usually far more expensive. As I don’t own them, I can’t compare the quality but I’d say Bosch Blue is mostly a consumer brand.

Aren’t you comparing getting married to being married here? I guess if you got married 11 times, you should be quite good in the process of getting married like knowing all the procedures, organizing everything, finding the right words etc.

You might even get a special rebate as you probably know the staff of the involved companies better than your spouses at this rate.
