  • It’s going to confuse everyday users

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I believe this is the intention. I think big companies deliberately put in confusing and bad design to “test the waters” and see if people will still buy their products. It’s the same with the apple mouse charging on the bottom, or why companies keep making their logos uglier with each iteration. It’s a psy-op to condition the masses into accepting worse products without complaining.

  • I really wish email had a built-in aliases feature. Like, so you can create unlimited new addresses that just point to your normal inbox. That would help so much with spam, since you could just block individual aliases. I know some email providers have this feature, but usually it’s paid. Plus Addressing is also nice, but it does nothing to hide your “real” address. Also I’m disappointed that end-to-end encrypted email is basically never used by normal people.

    • What happens to the ball? It rolls of the side of the table.
    • Color: I didn’t imagine a specific color
    • Gender: I didn’t imagine a specific gender. Most of the person was “out of the frame”
    • What did they look like: Again, most of the person was out of the frame, they were just kind of a gray silhouette
    • What size was the ball? Like a dodgeball I guess?
    • What about the table? Very minimalist square table made up of five rectangular prisms (the surface and four legs). No specific material, uniform texture. I imagined everything in isometric perspective.

This is what I recall from my first time imagining the scenario, I’d have to imagine some more if I wanted to give specific answers.

With all due respect, I don’t believe aphantasia is a real thing. The way people imagine things is so varied, weird, strange, and unique that I don’t think it makes sense assigning labels. Different people will give varying levels of detail to different parts of their imagination based on their past experiences and knowledge. If you ask someone to imagine a chessboard, someone who plays chess might imagine a specific opening or valid board state, while someone who doesn’t might just have a vague blob of chess pieces on a board.

Even with your ball on a table experiment, the experiences people have had throughout the day may give more or less detail to the imagined scenario. I’m fairly certain that the reason I imagined everything so abstractly is because recently I found an artwork with a similar minimalist isometric style that I liked a lot, so it’s kind of floating around in my subconsciousness and affecting how I imagine things.

  • I’m no politologist or military strategist, but I’m pretty sure a lot of wars (not all of them) are started so that a nation’s government can get better control over their own population. If the state can declare an emergency situation, they can use it to justify cracking down on political dissidents, invasive surveillance, restrincting freedom of speech, etc in the eyes of the public. It can also be used to ramp up nationalism, which works in the ruling class’ favour. Pretty sure this is at least part of the reason behind putin and nettanyahu stirring shit up right now.

  • Teams is such a confusing app. To start off, what is it meant to be? A frontend for onedrive? A chat app? A videocall app? It’s like microsoft’s attemp to make their own everything app. What was wrong with Skype? Actually, Teams shows up as “skypeforlinux” (complete with a Skype icon) in Pavucontrol, so is the videocalling part of teams just a re-packaged skype? Why does the web version of teams have its own integrated Excel which is slightly different from standard web excel? It feels like the UI was specifically designed to mislead. There is a list of icons on the left that allow you to switch between different contexts in the app. The visual design makes it look like a set of radiobuttons, except clicking on some of them twice does a different action… There is a home screen, and then also a second SUPER HOME screen!? I can’t even get angry it at for being a slow bloated jumble of spyware like the rest of microsoft’s garbage (which it is), I just feel a sense of morbid fascination every time I’m forced to use it. It feels like an AI-generated app from a future where AI is much more capable but still utterly fails at understanding humans. It’s the uncanny valley of user experience.

most of what I posted describe actual well known problems with Android. You would know that if you used Android.

Damn, you’re right, maybe I should do some reading on these “well known problems” that I haven’t once experienced in my three years of using android. Sounds pretty bad /s

^ Edgy sarcasm aside, everything you said really is news to me. Is there really that much difference between different android ROMs? I’m running /e/-os on my phone (lineageos fork), and I don’t think I’ve ever had issues with notifications or this “Doze” thing. I can’t say for lemmy app / youtube music tho, I don’t use those. Though I can relate a little bit to the third-party launcher thing – I have MLauncher, and a recent update just completely crippled the search functionality for no reason.

TBH cable transfer on android can be pretty shit as well. Like, if you luck out with the MTP implementation on both your phone and your computer, then it Just Works ™. But in many cases (like mine) it’s a buggy mess. I used to have a script that would sync music from my laptop to my phone with rsync, and I would have to run it like three times to actually transfer everything, because each time like 10% of the files would just… not make it across the cable lol. Now I just do it over WIFI. I really wish we could go back to the old days when plugging in your phone would just expose the microsd card as a block storage device.

Hey, do you mind telling me where I can sign up for the apple shilling program? What are the rates like? Approximately how many shill posts do you make a day? Is it necessary to make lots of different alt accounts, or can I just shill from my main?
