Apparently, Japan has one of the “cheapest” prices for the game while elsewhere it becomes a rip off for some reason (as referenced, in green: is converted from JPY while in red: is the price of the same thing in USA, Europe, UK, Australia, Brazil & Poland to name a few places).
The thing with pricing is that different countries have their own rules on taxes, so it’s kind of finicky to compare (as US has sales tax added upon checkout while EU includes VAT). The weird part is that both $ and € use the same numerical figures despite them being different currencies, as in 80€ is treated the same as $80 when the conversion does not match at all when you look it up.
Take a look at the exchange rate of the Yen compared to the Euro over the last 10 years and it should be clear why the Japanese prize is “cheap”. The Yen has lost a lot of its value, while Japanese wages haven’t risen accordingly. So prizing the game at an equivalent prize to EU or US would mean that the game would simply be unaffordable to Japanese people.
Yeah the yen is terrible right now and there’s nothing the government is currently doing to fix it, unless stoking anti-immigrant sentiment counts.
So then why is it an extra $52 in Australia?
AUD has lost ~50% of its value and we haven’t seen pay rises in a decade here…
