They do. They love them so much that they become obsessed with them. But the laserpen has no physical mass, meaning that the cats can’t understand why they can never catch it. So they work even harder to catch it. But they can’t. It’s just a light beam.

So it’s kind of like going hunting, and never getting the kill, despite the fact that you thought you killed it several times.
