I’ve been trying to learn the guitar for My Name Is Mud and was watching this isolated guitar track on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRKtjo51Fa0 .What blows me away is how alien it feels. Most bands you can trace back to something, but this just seems to exist in its own bubble with no clear inspirations.
Do you hear any influences in this guitar track?
Primus is a fucking trip and Larry just blasts off. It’s hard to figure out how he got to some of those places and thank fuck Les locks down the rhythm so well so he’s able to. They were heavily influenced by psychedelia, prog rock, jazz, funk, and metal so maybe it’s just an amalgam of all that
I mean everyone copies a little something from everyone else. Who is he copying?
Looking it up I saw that he said Zappa was a big influence and he wanted to do a Zappa meets Dead Kennedys thing which makes a lot of sense considering the sound
