Horrific, isn’t it? Men who come back from fighting fascism overseas, only to face a form of it at home.

I was always uncomfortable with the name, for multiple reasons. I took over the HistoryPorn comm when it was abandoned by the original mods, and so didn’t have the choice to change the name.

For one, I run several history comms, and having people think HistoryPorn was just ‘interesting things about history’ instead of ‘photos, specifically’ was annoying.

Two, sometimes gruesome or somber events are discussed and depicted in the comm, and “HistoryPorn” seems a bit weird when talking about the Holocaust.

Third, I am a joyless, humorless robot.

midwest.social has few active admins, and the most active one has made some questionable moderation decisions. Fighting instance-level administration is a bigger problem than comm-level moderation, so many of us chose to shift away from midwest.social.
