Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but a fascist movement depends on social pressure. MAGA has an alliance with Christian groups so they can apply that pressure. Trump is the most unchristian president in my lifetime, but Christians look the other way on his many many many sins because they are pressured to do so.
Leftists have a similar relationship going on. Iran is a theocratic authoritarian state, but you have to go along with whatever propaganda the throw your way because of social pressure.
