Building carbon capture tech into a car is peak marketing wankery.

I mean… I guess theoretically if you could keep a tank of algae or some other microbe that utilizes carbon dioxide alive in some kind of cell that you pass air intake through while driving the car then while it’s not actively producing CO2 from burning fuel it could be carbon negative but… I’d sure like to see some papers on how well this “microalgae” handles different environments and like… the movement of the vehicle.

It does “reduce total emissions” over time. Assuming it’s sold at levels to make it relevant and as long as mazda scales the fuel side. But you’re right, the wording is a little overly positive/optimistic, that’s not enough to call them out as green washing or anything though. Sure it’s marketing speech, but we can’t shit on every company trying to do the right things and moving in that right direction. We all know that rare earths are … Well, rare. They’re also very expensive. So if we can move in the right direction that’s a positive. Especially in the meantime, while we work on better technology like solid state batteries, and likely stuff that hasn’t even been thought of yet. So try not to shit on them, shit on dodge for continually going backwards.

“Two rotor rotary turbo engine with a motor and battery” sounds like the mechanic equivalent of the science word salad thrown around in medical dramas.

It’s not word salad if you know how any of these systems work. What part of it are you struggling with? 2 rotor rotary turbo engine? It’s a rotary engine with 2 rotors and a turbo. Rotors are like pistons, kinda/sorta, so if 2 rotors is like a 4 cylinder, 3 rotors is like a 6 cylinder. That’s really layman’s explanations because I don’t know your familiarity with engines, If it’s higher, I apologize, not trying to talk down to you or anything.
